1377 runs, 1 wicket and 12 catches in 27 matches: Virat scored at least a half-century in nine of his 11 innings in the World Cup, and scored 765 runs in the tournament. This is the highest score ever by an individual batsman in the Men's Cricket World Cup, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record in 2003.

He completed the record of 50 centuries in ODIs with his innings in the semi-finals. With this he became the batsman who scored the most centuries in ODIs.

He finished the tournament with another half-century in the final, but it did not lead to victory for India and the silence of the fans after his dismissal in the final in Ahmedabad was proof of how big a hope Kohli was of India winning the title.
