IPL 2027: High-profile trade between DC and LSG

Although there is still considerable time before IPL 2027 begins, a major trade has created a stir in the cricketing world. In a significant player swap between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, Rishabh Pant is set to return to his former team, Delhi Capitals, while star spinner Kuldeep Yadav will don the Lucknow Super Giants jersey.

The biggest talking point of this trade is Rishabh Pant's salary. He will join Delhi for ₹15 crore; in contrast, his salary at Lucknow was a record ₹27 crore. Lucknow had acquired him for a record ₹25 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL history at the time. Although Lucknow had appointed him captain, they released him following poor performances over the last two seasons—a move similar to how they parted ways with former captain KL Rahul.

Rishabh Pant has taken a massive ₹12 crore pay cut to return to Delhi. Meanwhile, as part of this swap, Lucknow has added Kuldeep to their squad for ₹13.5 crore. Pant could also be handed the Delhi captaincy; Axar Patel had been leading the team for the past two seasons, but the team's performance had been lackluster.

Indian squad announced for ODI series against England

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad on Sunday for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England. The Indian team will play this series under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. Virat Kohli has also been included in the squad, though his participation depends on his fitness. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal—who scored a century in the third ODI against Afghanistan—has not been selected.

The BCCI's men's selection committee has announced the squad for the ODI series against England but has clearly stated that Virat Kohli's participation will depend on a fitness test. Kohli's fitness will be assessed on June 22 at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence. Virat Kohli had led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to victory in the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans by scoring an unbeaten 75 runs. He sustained a hamstring injury during that match. Due to the injury, he had to miss the ODI series against Afghanistan. Virat is currently undergoing rehabilitation in London.

Who could replace Shreyanka Patil if she misses the Women T20 World Cup 2026?

Despite a resounding 95-run victory over the Netherlands in the Women's T20 World Cup 2026, there is an air of concern within the Indian camp. The joy of this big win was dampened when the team's star off-spinner and all-rounder, Shreyanka Patil, sustained an injury while fielding. She suffered a severe injury to her right ankle while attempting to field the ball off her own bowling during the final over of the powerplay, forcing her to be stretchered off the field.

Shreyanka's injury has become a major cause for concern for captain Harmanpreet Kaur ahead of crucial Group A clashes against formidable teams like South Africa and Australia. Shreyanka not only stifles the run rate during the middle overs but also provides explosive batting in the lower order. The BCCI is currently awaiting her official scan report, but should Shreyanka be ruled out of the tournament, these three players are the top contenders to replace her.

How did Shreyanka Patil get injured?

Shreyanka Patil came on to bowl the sixth over in the match against the Netherlands. Off the very first ball of the over, the Dutch batter Phoebe played a shot towards mid-wicket; Shreyanka ran to stop the ball but slipped and fell while attempting to take a catch. She was writhing in pain and struggling to get up. An ambulance was immediately summoned, and she was carried off the field on a stretcher. The BCCI shared details about Shreyanka's injury on social media and wished her a speedy recovery.

Who could replace Shreyanka Patil if she misses the Women T20 World Cup 2026?

1. Tanuja Kanwar

Tanuja Kanwar has emerged as the strongest contender to replace her. The left-arm spinner has previously been part of the national team; she was called up during the 2024 Women's Asia Cup after Shreyanka sustained a finger injury. Kanwar has established a strong reputation in domestic cricket and the Women's Premier League through her accurate bowling and ability to perform well during the middle overs. Her experience in bowling under pressure makes her an ideal choice, especially when India requires a specialist spinner.

2. Sneh Rana

Sneh Rana

Despite having considerable experience across various formats, many were surprised by Sneh Rana's exclusion from the World Cup squad. An off-spin bowling all-rounder, Sneh has played numerous matches for India and ranks among the most skilled spin-bowling all-rounders in domestic cricket. Her ability to bolster both the batting and bowling departments makes her a valuable asset. Rana's experience in ICC tournaments and overseas conditions would have further strengthened the group of young spin bowlers.

3. Saika Ishaque

If India requires a specialist spin bowler, Saika Ishaque could also be considered. This left-arm spinner has previously been part of India's T20 International squad and has consistently performed well in domestic tournaments. Ishaque caught the national team's attention after delivering a stellar performance in the Women's Premier League, where she emerged as one of the highest wicket-takers. Her ability to turn the ball and exert pressure on batters during the powerplay and middle overs offers India a valuable strategic option should Shreyanka be unavailable.
