Pakistan has reached the final of the World Championship of Legends (WCL), a tournament for retired cricketers. WCL gave this information late on Wednesday night. India had refused to play the semi-final match with Pakistan. This match was to be played in Birmingham on 31 July.
Earlier, Indian players were unable to play the group match with Pakistan on 20 July. Then the match was canceled and the points were divided between the two teams. But now the Pakistani team has reached the final by topping its group and gaining nine points with four wins.
India finished fourth in this tournament of six teams. The team won one match and lost three, while one match was inconclusive. Pakistan will face the winner of the second semi-final (Australia or South Africa).
What WCL said
The league's sponsor company EzMyTrip also announced its withdrawal from the semi-final match on Wednesday. The company's co-founder Nishant Pitti wrote in a post - We appreciate India's great performance in the WCL. However, the upcoming semi-final against Pakistan is no ordinary match. Terrorism and cricket cannot go together.
EzMyTrip stands with India. We cannot support any event that attempts to normalize relations with a country that promotes terrorism. Some things are bigger than sports. Country first, business later.
Protest against India-Pakistan match in Asia Cup
Ever since the schedule of Asia Cup 2025 was released on July 26, there has been a protest on social media regarding the India-Pakistan match. After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, people are saying that we should not play with the country from where terrorism flourishes.
The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has not yet given any official statement on this. India and Pakistan have been placed in the same group in the Asia Cup. The match between the two is to be played on September 14. Apart from this, the Indian women's team will play a match with Pakistan in the ICC Women's World Cup in Colombo on October 6.
