Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell on Monday announced his retirement from ODI cricket, bringing an end to his illustrious 13-year career for the national side in the 50-over format. Maxwell, 36, said he had made up his mind to retire from the format during Australia's Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, exiting from the semi-finals after a loss to India in Dubai.
Glenn Maxwell, who made his international debut in ODIs for Australia in 2012, was part of the World Cup-winning teams in 2015 and 2023. Maxwell revealed that during the Champions Trophy he spoke to Australia's selection committee chairman and former teammate George Bailey about his decision.

Glenn Maxwell made his debut against Afghanistan in 2012, playing 149 matches. He has scored 3,990 runs at an average of 33.81 and an incredibly high strike rate of 126.70, one of the best in ODI history. He scored four centuries, one of which was a double century, scoring an unbeaten 201 against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup, which is considered one of the greatest innings of all time.
He also took 77 wickets with his off-spin and was the best fielder of his time. Injuries have forced him to focus more on T20s since then. He has also expressed in an interview that he feels the body is no longer supporting him and it is time to let the youngsters take over.
