The West Indies Cricket Board has announced the team for the ODI and T20 series to be played on the Sri Lanka tour. West Indies recently defeated South Africa in the T20 series at home, due to which its confidence will be very high. But defeating Sri Lanka in its home is not easy. That too when the veterans of West Indies have withdrawn their names from this tour.
Sri Lanka recently defeated India in the ODI series and defeated India in this format for the first time in 27 years. West Indies is very strong in T20 but it looks weak in ODI.
West Indies veteran Nicholas Pooran will not be with the team on this tour. Apart from him, all-rounder Andre Russell, Shimron Hetmyer, Akila Hussain will also not be with the team on the Sri Lanka tour. The West Indies Cricket Board has issued a statement stating that all of them have decided to withdraw from the tour due to personal reasons. But this has reduced the strength of the team to half. Pooran is in great form at the moment. He scored a lot of runs against South Africa. After this, his bat also performed well in the CPL.
The absence of an all-rounder like Andre Russell is a big setback for any team. Team coach Darren Sammy has said that this is an opportunity to test the depth of the team. He said, The Sri Lanka tour will give us a chance to test our depth and test the players. Especially when the senior players are not with the team. We have full faith in the team.
