The Indian cricket team has to play T20 World Cup 2024 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma next month. After which there can be a big change in the Indian team. Head coach Rahul Dravid may be on leave. New coaches may come in his place. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also started the process for this. BCCI gave this information through social media on Monday. Apart from this, the Indian Board has also invited applications for the new coach. Let us tell you that at present Rahul Dravid is holding the post of coach of the Indian team.
Team India Coach
BCCI had appointed Dravid as coach till ODI World Cup 2023. But after that the Indian Board extended Dravid's tenure till T20 World Cup 2024. This World Cup will be played from June 1 under the hosting of America and West Indies. But even before this, BCCI has started the process of new coach. He has set the last date for application as 27th May (till 6 pm). However, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has already made it clear that if Rahul Dravid wants to extend his tenure then he can apply again for this post. Their application will be considered.
Qualifications prescribed for the new coach of Team India
Candidates applying for the post of Head Coach must have certain qualifications, which BCCI has mentioned in its advertisement.
- Must have experience of playing 30 Tests and 50 ODIs.
- A full member Test playing team must be trained for at least 2 years.
- Must have coached any Associate Country, IPL team, International League, First Class team, National A team for 3 or more years.
- Must have BCCI Coaching Level-3 Certificate.
- Age should be less than 60 years.
When was Rahul Dravid made the head coach
Rahul Dravid was made the head coach of India in November 2021, when Team India was eliminated from the group stage of the T20 World Cup. The team again played the semi-finals in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Dravid's tenure ended after the ODI World Cup in 2023, but due to Team India reaching the final, his tenure was extended till the T20 World Cup.
The tenure of the coaching staff along with Dravid was also extended. These include batting coach Vikram Rathore, fielding coach T Dilip and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. Jay Shah had recently said that if Dravid wants, he can apply again for the post of coach.
Under Dravid's coaching, Team India's only success came in the form of Asia Cup in 2023. India won the title by defeating hosts Sri Lanka.
Team India New Coach
Jay Shah had said at BCCI headquarters, we will invite applications in the next few days, Rahul Dravid's tenure is ending in June. If he wants to apply again, he can do so. The coaching staff such as batting, bowling and fielding coaches will be decided after consultation with the new coach. Let us tell you that the tenure of the new head coach will be for the next 3 years i.e. till ODI World Cup 2027. Jai Shah himself has made this clear. He had said that the new head coach will be offered to take charge till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
