BPL 2024 Final: Comilla Victorians defeated Fortune Barishal by six wickets in the final of Bangladesh Premier League 2024 at Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.
Fortune Barishal has won the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title for the first time in 13 years. In the final played in Mirpur, the team defeated Comilla Victorians by 6 wickets. Kyle Mayers was the player of the final, he scored 46 runs and also took one wicket. Tamim Iqbal of Barisal team was the player of the tournament. He scored the highest score of 492 runs in the tournament.
Bad start for Comilla Victorians
Barishaal team won the toss and chose to bowl first at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Batting first, the Victorians had a poor start. The team lost the wicket of Sunil Narine in the very first over. Meyers got him caught out. From here captain Liton Das 16, Tauhid Hridoy 15 and Johnson Charles also returned to the pavilion after scoring 15 runs. Moeen Ali also got run out after scoring just 3 runs. The team lost 5 wickets on the score of 79 runs.
After half the team returned to the pavilion, wicketkeeper Mahidul Islam Ankon and Jakar Ali took the team beyond 100 runs. Ankon was out after scoring 38 runs and the partnership of 46 runs between the two was broken. In the end, Andre Russell scored 27 runs on 14 balls and took the team's score to 154. Jacker returned not out after scoring 20 runs in 23 balls. James Fuller took 2 wickets from Barishaal team. While Kyle Mayers, Mohammad Saifuddin and Obed McCoy got one success each.
Fortune Barishal Innings
The openers gave a fast start to the Barishaal team chasing the target of 155 runs. Tamim Iqbal and Mehdi Hasan Miraj added 76 runs for the first wicket. Tamim was out after scoring 39 runs and Miraj after scoring 29 runs. After the fall of 2 wickets, Kyle Mayers scored quickly, he got the support of Mushfiqur Rahim. Both of them took the team's score close to 150. Mayers was out after scoring 46 runs and the 59-run partnership between the two was broken. Mushfiqur also returned to the pavilion after scoring 13 runs.
In the end, Mahmudullah scored 7 runs and David Miller scored 8 runs and the team won in just 19 overs. Mustafizur Rahman and Moeen Ali took 2-2 wickets from the Victorians team.
