Kumble played a total of 63 matches on Indian grounds. During this period he took 350 wickets. He took a total of 619 wickets in 132 Tests in his career. Ashwin overtook him in his 59th match at home. He is the only Indian to take 100 wickets in Tests against England. He has also achieved this feat in Ranchi Test only.

Ashwin took five wickets in the second innings against England. He became the fastest bowler for India to take five or more wickets in an innings. In this matter he equaled Kumble. Kumble had taken five or more wickets in an innings 35 times in 132 Tests. Ashwin equaled his score in the 99th test itself. His total now in Tests is 507 wickets.
