Why defamation case against MS Dhoni in Delhi High Court?

Delhi High Court will hear the defamation case filed against former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni on January 29. This case has been filed by Dhoni's former business partners.

The Delhi High Court will hear on January 29 the defamation case filed against World Cup-winning former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni by his former business partners. On Thursday, the High Court asked the Registrar to provide information about the case against Dhoni. The bench of Justice Pratibha Singh considered it appropriate to directly inform Dhoni about the filing of the current case.

The court asked the registrar to issue him an email and send a communication to the law firm representing him.

Dhoni's former business partners Mihir Diwakar and Soumya Das have filed a defamation case against him in the Delhi High Court. He has also filed a lawsuit against Meta, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Google and many other media houses and web portals.

Mihir Diwakar

In the suit, Diwakar and Das were seeking permanent injunction and damages from Dhoni, social media platforms and media houses, and restraining them from publishing defamatory, false and malicious statements against them.

The case seeks to restrain the defendants from causing damage to Dhoni's reputation based on alleged false allegations of illegal gains of Rs 15 crore and breach of the 2017 contract.

Dhoni had recently filed a criminal case in the Ranchi trial court against Diwakar and Das, accusing them of defrauding him of around Rs 16 crore by failing to fulfill the contract for setting up cricket academies.

The pair were reportedly friends with Dhoni and Diwakar and even played with the former Indian cricket captain in the Ranji Trophy.
