Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday broke records by registering the second largest purchase in the history of the Indian Premier League. The franchise bought Australia's 2023 World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins for ₹20.50 crore in the auction in Dubai. The Australian fast bowler had a base price of ₹2 crore, but SRH came out on top in the mega-bidding war. Initially, he was the most expensive purchase, but was later overtaken by Australian teammate Mitchell Starc.
The franchise also spent big on Australia's 2023 World Cup final hero Travis Head and bought him for ₹6.80 crore. Initial base price ₹2 crore. Speaking on Head's contract, Sri Lanka legend and SRH bowling coach Muttiah Muralitharan told JioCinema, "We really wanted him (Travis Head) because we needed a left-handed opening batsman." Apart from this, he can also bowl spin.
Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was bought for ₹1.5 crore by SRH, who were in search of Rashid Khan. Because the Afghan T20 sensation had chosen to leave the franchise. SRH bought Jaydev Unadkat (₹6.8 crore), Akash Singh (₹20 lakh), Jhatved Subramaniam (₹20 lakh). Unadkat's domestic experience can be useful to the team.
