Many records were broken in terms of the amount spent to buy star players in the IPL 2024 auction. Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in the history of the league when KKR bought the left-arm fast bowler for Rs 24.75 crore. His compatriot Pat Cummins was earlier bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore. The record made some time ago was broken, Mitchell Starc was bought by KKR for Rs 24.75 crore.
The 33-year-old Starc last played the IPL in 2015 and was a key member of Australia's World Cup 2023 ODI-winning team. He has taken 73 wickets in 58 T20Is.
Apart from the Australian pair of Starc and Cummins, New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell and West Indies batsman Rovman Powell also won big money. Daryl Mitchell, the third top player in the auction, was bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 14 crore. West Indies star Rovman Powell went to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 7.40 crore and Australia's Travis Head will play alongside Cummins for Hyderabad after being sold for Rs 6.8 crore. Another West Indian, Alzarri Joseph, was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 11.50 crore.
