Bangladesh team won the Under-19 Asia Cup title for the first time. In the final match played in Dubai on Sunday, Bangladesh won the title by defeating host UAE by 195 runs.
The match-winning inning was played by Bangladesh opener Ashikur Rahman Shibli, who played a brilliant inning of 129 runs in the final. At the same time, Rahman received the Player of the Series award.
Bangladesh won Under 19 Asia Cup
In the final match, the host UAE team won the toss and decided to bowl first. Bangladesh team captained by Mahfoozur Rahman scored 282 runs in 50 overs. Ashikur Rahman Shibli played a stormy inning of 129 runs for Bangladesh. Chaudhary Mohammad Rizwan played a brilliant inning of 60 runs facing 71 balls. Apart from him, Ariful Islam scored 50 runs.
UAE team had a bad start. By the score of 45 runs, half of the UAE team had returned to the pavilion. The team's continuous fall of wickets continued and the entire team was all out for just 87 runs in 24.5 overs. For Bangladesh, Maroof Mridha and Ruhanat Borsan took 3 wickets each, while Mohammad Iqbal and Parvez Rahman got two wickets each.
Ashikur Rahman Shibli performed well throughout the tournament
For Bangladesh, wicketkeeper Ashikur Rahman Shibli created a stir with the bat not only in the final match but in the entire tournament and played stormy innings. In the final match, facing 149 balls, he scored 129 runs with the help of 12 fours and 1 six.
Ashikur and Chaudhary Rizwan also made a partnership of 125 runs for the second wicket. After this, Rehman made a partnership of 86 runs with Ariful Islam for the third wicket. Whereas, Ayman Ahmed took 4 wickets for UAE.
