Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement on Thursday (July 5) at a press conference in Chattogram. His decision created a stir in Bangladesh cricket. According to ESPN Cricinfo, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called him after announcing his retirement. Tamim Iqbal withdraws the decision to retire after meeting PM.

Tamim was also attended by his wife, former captain Mashrafe Mortaza and BCB President Nazmul Hasan in the meeting held at the Prime Minister's residence on Friday afternoon. Tamim briefed the media outside the residence.

It is also worth noting that the Bangladesh skipper made a surprise announcement of retirement on Thursday after losing the first ODI against Afghanistan. According to the report, Tamim was publicly criticized by BCB President Nazmul. It is believed that due to this, Tamim announced his retirement while addressing a press conference at midnight. At the same time, BCB appointed Liton Das as the captain for the second and third ODIs against Afghanistan.
