Asian Cricket Council President Jay Shah on Thursday announced the tournaments to be held in 2023 and 2024 through social media. Asia Cup 2023 will be held in September. This time the Asia Cup will be played in ODI format.

The group stage list for the Asia Cup has been released. India and Pakistan teams are in the same group. In such a situation, both the teams will be face to face once again in September. The last time both of them met in the T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia. Then Team India won the match which reached the last ball. Talking about the Asia Cup, last year two matches were played between the two teams. India won the first match and Pakistan won the second match. Team India was eliminated in the Super-4 round. At the same time, Sri Lanka captured the title by defeating Pakistan in the final.

The Asia Cup is to be held in Pakistan this time. However, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Jay Shah had said last year that the tournament would be played at a neutral venue. Team India will not tour Pakistan. His statement was opposed by Pakistan. Since then, it has not been decided till now where the tournament will be played. As of now Pakistan is the official host.

This time also only 6 teams will participate in the Asia Cup. These teams will be India, Pakistan, defending champions Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and a qualifier team. All these teams will be divided into two groups. A total of 6 matches will be played between 6 teams under both the group stages. After this, the top-2 teams from both the groups will qualify for the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, a total of 6 matches will be played between the 4 teams under the round robin format. After this, two teams will reach the final and the title match will be played between them. In this way, a total of 13 matches including the final are to be played in Asia Cup 2023.

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah released the cricket calendar for 2023-24. In this, the way to make a place in the competition for the allied countries has also been told. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka have already secured their places. The winner of the Mens Premier Cup will get a place in the tournament.

10 teams will play in the Premier Cup. They are divided into two groups. During this there will be a total of 20 matches. In 2022, Hong Kong made it to the Asia Cup. It was grouped with India and Pakistan. This time in Group-A of the Premier Cup, teams from UAE, Nepal, Kuwait, Qatar and Clarifier-1 will be there. Whereas, Group-B will have Oman, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Clarifier-2. The Qualifier-1 and Qualifier-2 of the Premier Cup will be decided by the Challenger Cup.
