Tim Paine has resigned as captain before the ashes series, sends private messages to colleague

Paine announced his resignation from the captaincy at a press conference in Hobart on Friday afternoon, following revelations of a ‘sexting’ incident involving a former Cricket Tasmania employee in 2017.

(Tim Paine)

Tim Paine has left the captaincy of the Australian Test team. Paine has taken this step before the start of the Ashes series against England. Pan announced his resignation from office in Hobart today. In 2018, he was appointed the 46th Australian Test captain, replacing Steve Smith. According to media reports, Tim Paine is being investigated by Cricket Australias governing body for sending lewd text messages and an inappropriate photo to a female colleague in 2017.

Tim Paine’s full statement:

“Today I am announcing my decision to stand down as captain of the Australian men’s cricket team. It’s a difficult decision, but the right one for me, my family and cricket.

Emotionally speaking at the press conference, Tim Paine said, "There is a case from almost four years ago as the background of my decision. I was involved in a text exchange with a then colleague. At the time, the exchange was the subject of a thorough CA Integrity Unit investigation, which I fully and openly participated in. That investigation and a Cricket Tasmania HR investigation at the same time found that there had been no breach of Cricket Australias code of conduct. Although I was acquitted, I deeply regretted the incident at the time, and still do today. I talked to my wife and family at that time. I am very grateful for their forgiveness and support. We thought that this incident is now behind and I can focus completely on the team, as I have done for the last three or four years.

However, I recently learned that this private text exchange is going to be public. Considering my actions in 2017 do not meet the standards of an Australian cricket captain or the wider community. I am deeply sorry for the hurt and pain caused to my wife, my family and the other side. I am sorry for any damage this has caused to the reputation of our sport. And I believe it is the right decision for me as captain with immediate effect. I dont want it to become an unwanted disruption for the team ahead of a big Ashes series

Next captain

Former Australia captain Ian Chappell minced no words and thrown his weight behind fast bowler Pat Cummins to be considered as the next person to replace Tim Paine as Australia’s Test captain. Chappell believes even if a new investigation into the 2018 ball-tampering scandal revealed that the bowlers might have known about the plot, Cummins should get the preference over batting maestro Steve Smith for Australian captaincy after incumbent Paine retires.

Match Preview, NZ vs AUS Match Prediction

Australia cricket team will be looking to lift their maiden T20 World Cup trophy by winning the final against Tasmanian rivals New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday with a spirited performance by their players. Considering the manner in which both Australia and New Zealand won their semi-final matches, another dramatic match can be expected in Ring of Fire.

Australia-New Zealand looking for first trophy

Australia and New Zealand will be eyeing to win the T20 World Cup trophy for the first time. Australia has won the ODI World Cup title five times but the team is yet to win the T20 World Cup trophy. The Kangaroo team played the final of the tournament in the year 2010 but lost to England. At the same time, New Zealand will play the final of the T20 World Cup for the first time. Earlier, the last match of the World Cup final between Australia and New Zealand was in 2015 in the 50-over format, in which the Kangaroos won. Australia has not won any ICC tournament since then.

New Zealands bowling performance has been excellent

New Zealand have been the best bowling team in the group stage, showing their scintillating bowling performance against the strong contenders ahead of the tournament in the semi-finals.

The experienced pace duo of Tim Southee and Trent Boult are expected to keep Australia openers Aaron Finch and David Warner under control in the powerplay. Adam Milne has also done a good job as the third pacer while leg-spinner Ish Sodhi has been impressive in the middle overs.

Warners shoulders will be responsible for a good start

In the last two innings, Warner has shown that form is temporary and class is permanent. And there is every hope that he will show his bat in the final. On the other hand, better performances will be expected from Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith, who have not been able to make a big impact in the tournament so far.Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade scored a thumping win against Pakistan in the chase, making Australia look all set for a better result.

The clash between the two teams will start at 7.30 pm at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Both the teams have made it to the league stage after a stellar performance. Pakistan topped Group-2 while Australia is second in Group-1. Pakistan hoisted the winning flag in all their five matches of the sup-12 round. On the other hand, Australia won four matches and lost one .

Pakistan started their campaign in the tournament with a historic win against India. The Pakistan team led by Babar Azam defeated New Zealand, Afghanistan, Namibia and Scotland. Pakistan won the T20 World Cup title in the year 2009 and now the team will be looking to enter the final for the second time. At the same time, Australia defeated South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies in the Super-12 round and lost against England. The Kangaroo team was the runner-up in the year 2019 and will come with full strength to enter the title match for the second time.

Pakistan Australia have strong bowling attack

Pakistans bowling attack has also impressed a lot. Fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf have troubled the opposition batsmen but Hasan Ali has not been able to perform as expected. Babar expects Hassan to do better against Australia. Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hafeez and Shadab Khan will be captain Babars main weapons in the spin department against Australia. Against spin, Australia has faced trouble on several occasions. On the other hand, 2010 runners-up Australia are showing their top game at the right time and would like to win the title here and win the ICC tournament they have not won so far.

PAK vs AUS Pitch Report

The toss has been discussed a lot during the T20 World Cup. After winning the toss, the bowling team has got the upper hand so far. The team batting first has been able to win only once in Dubai. The average score at this ground has been 122. However, apart from the bowlers, there is also a possibility of getting help to the batsmen at the Dubai International Stadium. In fact, the pitch used for the semi-finals of Pakistan and Australia has given good assist to the batsmen in the last three matches. Dew can also be a factor here. Dubai has more dew than Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, making defending the target even more challenging.

Dubai weather Forecast Today

The weather will be hot in Dubai on Thursday. However, when the players of Pakistan and Australia take to the field in the evening, some relief is expected. Where the temperature during the day will be 31 degree Celsius, then the temperature during the match is likely to be around 27 degree Celsius. The players will not have to bear much of the humidity, which is expected to be around 43 per cent. The wind can blow at a speed of about 11 km per hour. The weather will be clear and there is absolutely no chance of rain. It is worth noting that Pakistan has won both their matches played in Dubai in the current tournament, while Australia played three matches, winning two and losing one.

England opener Jason Roy has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup with a calf tear. Roy sustained the injury in the teams final Super 12 encounter against South Africa in Sharjah. He will now be replaced in the squad by James Vince, who was a travelling reserve in the England contingent.

Roy featured in each of Englands five fixtures in the tournament, scoring 123 runs -- behind only Jos Buttler -- including a highest of 61 against Bangladesh.

The 31-year-old had made a bright start in the chase against South Africa before he was called through for a single by Buttler. Roy pulled up almost immediately and dropped to the ground after completing the run. He retired hurt subsequently and had to be helped off the field by Tom Curran, the substitute.

"Im gutted to be ruled out of the World Cup," Roy said. "It is a bitter pill to swallow. I will be staying on to support the boys and hopefully, we can go all the way and lift that trophy. It has been an unbelievable journey so far and we have to continue expressing ourselves and concentrating on us.

"The rehab has already started and even though Ive torn my calf, Im going to give myself the best chance of being ready for the T20 tour of the Caribbean at the start of next year."

England, wholl play New Zealand in the first semifinal at Abu Dhabi, can now bring Vince into the XI as a direct replacement. However, they are likelier to bring in Sam Billings into the middle-order and promote one of Jonny Bairstow or Dawid Malan to open with Buttler.
