IPL 2024 Rules: The IPL Governing Council on Saturday decided that the 10 franchises will be allowed to retain a maximum of six players from their previous team, which will also include a 'Right to Match' (RTM) card from the auction, which will be worth Rs 75 crore from the increased team purse of Rs 120 crore.

In the last mega auction held in 2022, a team was allowed to retain a maximum of four. Along with this, taking a historic decision, the Governing Council has for the first time fixed the match fee of Rs 7.5 lakh per league match for the players in the IPL. This will apply to both Indian and foreign players. That is, if a player plays all the matches of the league, then he will get Rs 1.05 crore in addition to the contract as match fee only.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced this historic decision on his X handle after the meeting on Saturday. Shah said that the decision has been taken to "celebrate continuity and great performances" in the IPL. Shah also informed that each "franchise will be allocated Rs 12.60 crore to facilitate match fees.

An 'uncapped' Indian player in the IPL (who can play three IPL matches) will get a minimum base price of Rs 20 lakh and an additional Rs 22.5 lakh. So he can earn Rs 42.5 lakh in a season by playing just three three-hour matches, while if he plays 10 Ranji Trophy matches in a season, he will get only Rs 24 lakh.

RTM card use in IPL matches

To help the franchises retain the core team in the mega lottery of IPL 2025, the coaching council has introduced the Right to Match Card. According to this, this right can be used to retain the former players of the team in addition to the players of every franchise. If a franchise retains three players, then it can use this card three times. At the same time, the franchise retaining five players can use it once.
